본문내용
China has gone through many changes over a few decades. The two most prominent leaders of China, Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping, are evaluated differently. Mao Zedong is known as the revolutionary who was the master of organizing people. He believed in the power of the masses but was skeptical of the party bureaucracy. Most of his decisions were drawn arbitrarily without being checked by institutions. He was loved by the public, but his overruling power failed to reform China. On the other hand, Deng was successful in his reforms toward the modernization. Unlike his predecessor Mao, he opened up China to foreign trades, loosened up the central control over the economies, and re-formulated the party bureaucracy. Consequently, when we think of Deng, it tends to be within a context where Mao’s revolutionary legacy is seen as irrelevant. After all, Deng was the one who paved the capitalist road for China.
