[Introduction]
In the history of linguistics, there have been various approaches to analyze women`s and men`s speech. The goal of the studies of those linguistics is fundamentally to find out if men and women speak differently. In fact, there are many differences in their speech. The reasons of the differences are such as choice and usage of words, phonology, and interactions between men and women in discourse. As a result, misunderstandings between men and women easily arise in discourse. Many theories claim that such differences in language come from male tendency to dominate women and male speech norms. On the other hand, Deborah Tannen claims that male-female communication is cross-cultural. People, regardless of gender, may grow up in the same country, society and culture.
