It would be horrifying if the history of Koguryo becomes a part of Chinese history, however, if it happens, including Koguryo history, all of the northern history such as the histories of Balhae and Buyeo will become Chinese history, which will distort Korean history, and this is why we have to protect our history. Where should we find our roots if all of Korean history is included in Chinese history? This is a serious problem that will weaken the Korean identity, so please read my mail, and review this problem.
First of all, the name of the country ‘Koguryo’ is different from the name of China. Chinese names come from Chinese characters. Countries names are a maximum two letters by putting 前,後(fore, post) on `漢,晉,秦,宋,明`. However, names of past country of Korea consist of word unit. Korean country names such as Joseon, Buyeo, Koguryo, Baekje, Silla, Gaya, Balhae and Gorye, etc, all have one thing in common. They all consist of two letters.
Also the country symbol for Koguryo is ‘Samjoko’ (Imaginary crow with three legs from the ancient myth, lives only in the sun)’. This is different from the Han dynasty for which the country symbol was a dragon. Korean came from the sky, as mentioned in foundation myth of Koguryo, and its symbol is the bird which the fighter of the sky. The country founders have also always been related to bird’s eggs. The Koguryo nations considered Samjoko as an auspicious thing moreover; Samjoko represented the sun in the wall paintings in Koguryo tombs. However, the dragon is expressing the wish to go up to the sky from the earth.
