수업능력의 전환적 이해

교사에게 가장 우선적으로 요구되는 능력이 수업을 효과적으로 이끌어 학업성취도를 높이는 것이라는 생각은 교사의 역할, 수업, 수업효과, 수업능력에 대한 통상적 이해를 반영한다. 그러나 학교체제 안에서 교사가 담당하는 직무의 종류는 수업만이 아니기 때문에, 교사가 구비해야 할 능력의 범위를 다시 생각해 보아야 하고, 이를 바탕으로 교사양성과정의 목적과 내용과 방법을 손질할 필요가 있다. 또한, 교사의 수업능력을 주로 효과성 위주의 기능주의적 도식으로 파악하는 것은 그 능력요소의 조건과 범위를 한정할 수 없는 개념적인 난점을 안고 있다. 학교에서의 수업이 교과서를 둘러싸고 교사와 학생 사이에 그 해석의 우열을 가리는 상황인 점을 감안하면, 그 해석에 관여하는 이해구조를 재구성하는 과제가 우선하게 된다. 이를 위해 단계별 접근과 비언어적 실천의 두 가지 수업원리를 따르는 동시에, 텍스트 자체보다는 그것에 대한 학생의 반응에 주목하는 질문공탁의 활용이 적극 요청된다.

영어 초록

It is commonly admitted that teachers put their priority on students` academic achievement. Teachers are expected to quip themselves with various kinds of instructional methods and strategies. The more effective those methods are, the more competent they are approved. This line of thinking, however, has two problems at least. Firstly, teacher`s activities aren`t full of educational activities even when he instructs, because schooling includes many different kinds of human affairs-political, economical, social, cultural, moral, religious, and so on mode of life. Thus, instruction itself isn`t identical with education any longer. Secondly, the functionalistic approach to teacher competence identifies it upon a causal relationship. To say, whatsoever effective to students` academic achievement are requisite for teacher training, of which effects aren`t fully verified in an empirical way. Substituting a meaning of teacher competence by its function, it renders a conceptual fallacy. It doesn`t set the boundary of teacher competence, nor discriminate a major from a minor. Besides, it doesn`t reveal any substantial meaning of teaching or education, either. This paper suggests "Interpretative approach" as an alternative to the functionalistic approach to understand the instructional situation more clearly. If there`s any mis-communication between teacher and student, it is because one is lower than the other in understanding level. Common is the case that teacher is upper and students are lower. (Of course, the reverse is the case, sometimes.) Therefore, teachers have to put his emphasis on facilitating students` activities to reconstruct their interpretative framework. The more clearly teachers know how to interact with students, the better they can do how to help them to level up their understanding. In this paper, I explain they have to follow two principles at least. One is ``the principle of setting "end-in-view."`` The other is ``the principle of apprenticeship practicum`` beyond linguistic communication.
