Abstract

최근 몇 년 만에 인터넷의 폭발적 성장과 보급으로 우리 사회도 ‘인터넷 시대’에 돌입하였다. 인터넷이 몰고 온 정보화 시대는 넓게는 교육, 좁게는 역사교육에도 커다란 영향을 미칠 것이다. 그러면 인터넷 시대에서 교육, 특히 역사교육이 우리 사회에서 차지하는 위치는 무엇이며, 그것이 담당해야 할 역할은 무엇일까? 또, 그 역할을 효율적으로 수행할 수 있는 제반 여건은 갖추어져 있는가? 갖추어져 있다면 이를 수행하기 위한 구체적 전략은 무엇일까? 이러한 문제의식을 가지고, 이 논문에서 필자는 인터넷을 활용한 역사수업의 가능성을 탐색하고자, 서울 강북의 한 중학교의 158명의 학생과 인터넷 활용 워크숍에 참석한 서울 시내 25개교 37명의 역사과 교사를 대상으로 설문조사를 벌여 인터넷을 활용한 역사 수업을 위한 인적ㆍ물적 여건을 조사ㆍ분석하였고, 여기서 나타난 문제점에 관한 논의를 통해 개선점을 제시하고자 하였다.

영어 초록

Recent development and spread of the internet has led our society to the Age of the Internet. Now every phase of our activity has been deeply affected by the internet. And this is more so in the fields of the education, where the internet was originally developed and used as useful research tools. Recognizing the deep potentials of the internet as the teaching and learning tools from the earlier days of the internet, educators both in the university communities and in the secondary education tried to devise ways to incorporate the various tools of the internet to enhance their teaching and to help their students’ learning. History teachers should be active participants in the revolutionary changes in the fields of the education in this age of the internet.
In this age of rapid progress and changes should history teachers have to change their perception of roles as teachers. Rather than to be the supplier of the knowledge and information to the students, they need to be the helper for students’ intellectual endeavors. Rather than the traditional one-way teaching method, teachers are encouraged to teach in interactive method. And students are also expected to take active part in class activities in order to achieve their educational goals. There is no doubt that the internet makes teachers’ job of motivating students and making them eager participants in classroom activities easier and more enjoyable.
Some questions remain to be answered. Is it possible in our frustrating educational environment? Are both teachers and students ready to take the challenge? Are the internet resources satisfactorily placed either in school or at home? If so, what concrete strategy should teachers perform to utilize them? This paper addresses these questions, and suggests that the internet is one of the most effective tools available to make interactive teaching and learning possible in history class.
