The purpose of the research was to explore how kindergarten teachers establishpractical knowledge required for curriculum implementation. In-depth interviews with
three kindergarten teachers were conducted. The interviews were transcribed and
analyzed thoroughly to draw conclusions as followed. The results are divided into two
aspects: building practical knowledge starting from kindergarten teachers themselves
and from external assessors. First, the three teachers utilized self-reflection when they
faced problems during class or after class and used their knowledge to solve the
problems. After that, they verified effectiveness of the knowledge based on what they
had known and, as a result, constructed a new form of practical knowledge. If the
previous knowledge was effective to solve the problem, they defined it as practical
knowledge. On the other hand, if it was ineffective, they replaced it with a new
solution; then they examined the new solution’s effectiveness and accepted it as new
practical knowledge. Second, the teachers reconstituted practical knowledge provided
by external assessors based on their educational beliefs and previous teaching
experiences or reconstructed the knowledge into a more practical form in order to use
it in class. Based on the results of this study, the importance of reflective thinking of
kindergarten teachers and the need for building a learning community was discussed,
and further implications were suggested.
