In this study, mother's punishments perceived by children as a way of discipline and children's anger expression were investigated. Children aged between eleven to thirteen years with previous experience of being corporally punished were selected from two elementary schools from the Inchon area. They were asked to answer a set of questions about the situation in which they were punished and how they felt when being corporally punished. As results, most children whose mothers use corporal punishment, were corporally punished 1-5 times a month, and most mothers practiced this discipline method right after children committed wrongdoing with consistent rules and explanation of the reasons in a separate room where mother and child could be alone. Also most mothers used verbal discipline before practicing corporal punishment. The number of punishments, use of separate room, mother's reaction toward children's wrongdoing, and punishment method differed according to child's sex. Children expressed their anger more internally than externally after being corporally punished and girls expressed anger more than boys. In other words, girls seemed to be affected more negatively by corporal punishment than boys. From the mother's point of view, they tended to think that it is more alright to corporally punish boys than girls.
