Heard about the novel, `A small ball shot by a dwarf`, tens of times, I have suffered from an obsession that a thoughtful person should read it at least a couple of times. They told ma that I wouldn`t understand many things because it was my first time to read the book, which is serious and complicatedly constructed. So I started to read it with the ridiculous explanation that it is hard to understand it because it is difficult.
People are really selfish. In other words, it means hat I am selfish. Even though their situation gets better, they tend to make it much better, thinking about the rich rather than the poor. They don`t consider the circumstances of the neglected and destitute. In this nation, the vicious circle is repeated : the rich is always rich, and the poor is always poor. It cannot be denied, even though I don`t want to acknowledge it. Needy people cannot afford to attend school. So it is hard for them to study much and systematically. They cannot reach the upper classes and make much money because they didn`t study much generally. As `A small ball shot by a dwarf` clearly showed such cruelty of our society, I really felt disgusted while reading. Maybe I have neglected those social problems, insisting that I am not directly concerned with them. It seems that guilty feeling and some pressure made me sick. I don`t know what I can do for them, and I cannot decide whether I am able to pity and help them or not. It makes my heart sink, and I get to see the society gloomy. More frustrating thing is that those serious thoughts and feelings don`t remain even during a few hours and I become selfish again.
Although 영수, 영호, 영희 live in 행복동, they are not happy at all. They only have their dwarf father and a house which will be removed in near future. One studied hard and took part in student movement, saying that onlooking the neglected is included in the violence at their time. But it couldn`t change their life.
