1. Objective
1) Learn about the continuity equation and the Bernoulli equation.
2) Measure the head loss at various diameter pipes and various fittings by measuring the pressure difference.
2. Theory
1) Continuity equation
A continuity equation is a differential equation that the total mass does not change when nothing is generated or dissipated in fluid motion. In Figure 1, even in different locations, the mass of the fluid is same, so the following equations can be established.
In this equation, is the density of the fluid, Q is the volume flow, and V is the fluid speed component perpendicular to area A. If the fluid is constant and uncompressed, the following relationship is established from the above continuity equation
