Representative of the victors met at Paris on January 18, 1919. The world hoped that the peacemaker at Paris would build a solid peace and reduce these stresses and strains so that Europe might get back to normalcy. The power of the conference lay in the hands of four men-President Wilson, Georges Clemenceau of France, Llovd George of Great Britain, and Orlando of Italy. The four men redrew the map of Europe.
The Germany lost a colony and Alsace-Lorraine was restored to France and other small territories were given to Belgium and Denmark. Also, in accordance with the principle of self-determination of peoples, the Balkan Peninsula and East Europe established the minority nation(Poland·Czechoslovakia·Yugoslavia·Finland) Poland would have a port on the Baltic, the Allies gave her a strip of land known as the Polish Corridor in spite of territory populated by Germans. This and other change gave Hitler some of his best arguments for starting the Second World War.
