Michelin is one of the largest tire maker companies around the world. Michelin produces for every type of vehicle, including airplanes, automobiles, bicycles, earthmovers, farm equipment, heavy-duty trucks, motorcycles and the space shuttle. By supporting design, Michelin aims to establish a closer relationship with the design community, combining technical innovation with transportation design to create vehicles that consumers want to buy and will enjoy driving. Therefore, Michelin creates the annual Michelin Challenge Design™ to celebrate, promote, publicize and give visibility to original creative thinking and innovation in vehicle design. The annual Michelin Challenge Design offers to designers around the world, individuals and small and large groups. So far the competition has featured five geographic design themes: Italian (2002); French (2003); Cars for the Emerging Chinese market (2004); German (2005) and California (2006).
