*Definitions
Definition: The absence of one or both testes from the scrotum
Location
Normal path of descent between the abdominal cavity and just outside the anatomic scrotum
Migrate to ectopic positions outside the scrotum, not along the normal path of descent
Incidence
Isolated cryptorchidism is one of the most common congenital anomalies found at birth and affects upward of 3% of full-term male newborns
Unilateral cryptorchidism is more common than bilateral cryptorchidism, which occurs in 1.6% to 1.9% of boys
30.3% incidence of undescended testes in premature infants

Infertility
Hypoplasia of the Leygig cells (the earliest postnatal histologic abnormality)
Failure of maturation and proliferation of germ cells
Redused total germ cell count
Subnormal sperm counts
