한국어 초록

이 논문은 연극치료의 접근 방식을 다양한 매체를 통함으로써 에둘러 말
하는 투사적 접근법(projective method)과 참여자의 경험을 직접적으로 기술
하고 변형하는 역할 연기적 접근법(role play method)으로 분류할 것을 제안
한다. 참여자가 자기 아닌 다른 인물(character)이 되어 사는 것이 투사적 접
근의 핵심이라면, 역할 연기적 접근의 요체는 참여자가 자기 자신을 벗어나
지 않되 대신 자기를 구성하는 여러 역할(role)을 사는 것이다. 투사적 접근
과 역할 연기적 접근 모두 경험을 극적으로 재현한다는 데서는 다름이 없
지만, 경험을 그 자체로 드러내는 것과 다른 것에 빗대어 다루는 것은 여러
지점에서 구별 되는 접근으로서 어떻게 보고 말하기를 선택하는가에 따라
사뭇 다른 결과가 초래된다.
역할 연기적 접근법은 참여자의 실제 경험을 대상으로 하되 참여자가 최
근에 겪고 있는 갈등이나 그와 관련된 과거의 사건을 포함하여 참여자가
꿈꾸거나 두려워하는 미래를 재현하며, 정서적으로는 기쁘고 즐겁고 자랑
스러운 감정과 관련된 안전한 경험과 함께 부정적인 감정을 내포한 것 뿐
아니라 정서적 외상 경험까지 부담스럽고 위험한 경험을 두루 다룬다. 그리
고 경험을 다룰 때는 대개 그 내용을 사실적으로 재연한 다음 속마음 말하
기, 역할 바꾸기, 움직임과 대사 반복하기, 밖에서 바라보기, 지도 그리기,
대안 찾기 등 기법을 활용하여 변형한다.
투사적 접근법의 특징을 은유와 상징을 경유하는 우회성과 몸의 언어라
한다면, 역할 연기적 접근법은 역할을 단위로 한 직접성과 입의 언어를 특
징으로 꼽을 수 있다. 참여자가 실제로 겪은 경험의 단편을 사실적으로 재
연하고 거기에 나타난 갈등을 우리의 생각과 감정을 담는 그릇이자 인성의
구성 단위인 역할로 해부함으로써 지나치게 지배적인 역할, 강화해야할 역
할, 새로 학습해야 할 역할 등을 찾아 조율하는 과정인 것이다. 그래서 역
할 연기적 접근법은 사실적 재연을 통해 참여자가 자신의 경험에 밀착하여
느낄 수 있게 하고, 경험을 극적으로 변형함으로써 역할을 적절하게 재구성
하게 해주며, 변형된 역할을 반복 연습함으로써 현실 적응력을 높일 수 있
게 한다.
역할 연기적 접근법을 활용할 때는 집단의 신뢰 정도와 참여자의 투사
능력을 고려하여 적절한 시점과 방식을 선택할 필요가 있다. 우선 참여자가
자신의 실제 경험을 다루자면 위험을 감수하는 용기가 전제되어야 한다. 따
라서 참여자가 자기를 노출할 수 있도록 돕기 위해서는 집단이 서로 깊이
신뢰하는 환경이 중요하며, 작업 초반에 정서적으로 중립적이거나 긍정적
인 경험을 다룸으로써 노출에 대한 부담을 줄일 수도 있다. 은유와 상징을
자유롭게 사용하지 못하는 참여자에게는 역할 연기 접근법을 먼저 시도하
는 것이 좋다. 당면한 문제에 지나치게 밀착해 있거나 상상, 연역, 직감, 예
술 등의 감정적 정신 활동에 취약한 좌뇌 중심적 기질을 가진 참여자는 투
사적 접근에 취약할 수 있다. 그 때는 역할 연기적 접근을 먼저 적용하여
문제와 관련된 감정을 표출하게 함으로써 소거의 카타르시스를 경험케 하
면 참여자는 서서히 문제로부터 거리를 두게 되고, 그렇게 확보된 내면의
공간으로 은유와 상징을 받아들일 수 있게 된다. 그리고 기질적으로 감정적
인 무능력을 보이는 참여자의 경우에도 밀착을 촉진하는 역할 연기 접근법
을 충분히 경험하면서 감정과 친숙해지는 것이 필요하다.
우리의 경험을 다룸에 있어 역할 연기적 접근은 고유한 특성과 쓰임새를
지닌 투사적 접근 못지않게 중요한 연극치료의 언어이다.

영어 초록

This Study aims to propose new frame that divides dramatherapeutic
language, projective method and role play method. The projective method
uses projective medium such as movement, sound, figure, story and fictional
character. The role play method directly describes and transforms the
participant's experience without detouring through projection. These two
methods share the nature of dramatic representation, but each method has its
indigenous character and unique usage in dramatherapy.
The role play method is intended for participant's actual experiences that
can be current problem, past event and potential future. From the emotional
point of view, it can deal with safe things related to positive feeling like joy,
love, pride and dangerous thing involved in negative feelings like grief,
anger, fear and traumatic experiences. Generally the role play method
follows two phases. The first phase is realistic reenactment and the second
phase is connected transformation of the participant's experiences reenacted.
The representative transformative techniques are role reversal, doubling,
repeating the line and movement, watching from a distance, drawing a map
and looking for alternatives.
The projective method is characterized by the indirectness through
metaphor and symbol, and the language of body. On the other hand the
directiveness based role and the language of mouth gives peculiar quality the
role play method. The "role" is a constituent unit of individual's personality
and "the container of emotion and thought regarding oneself and others". In
terms of role, the role play method is a series of process, that is anatomy of a
beat of participant's experience and reconstitution of role system. In other
words, the process constitutes of finding important roles too dominant, need
to be strengthened and need to be learned, and tuning the system of roles. As
a result, the role play method make the participant get close his experience
and feel the emotion through the realistic reenactment, reconstitute the
participant's role system through dramatic transformation of the experience,
and enhance the adaptability to reality by repeated rehearsal of transfomed
roles.
On using role play method, dramatherapist need to choose cautiously the
timing and means considering the group dynamic and degree of trust and the
projective capability. To deal with one's own experience, it premise
participant's courage to take a risk. So to help participant reveal himself it's
important to provide trustworthy environment and for this condition
therapist can deal with positive emotion and episodes especially in ealy part
of working process. When the participant is not good at using metaphor and
symbol, it had better try the role play method before the other. Those too
underdistanced from their problematic situation or a left-brained can be poor
at using the projective method. In those cases, the dramatherapist can try
first role play method and it make participant express his repressed emotion
and the catharsis make some inner space enable accept metaphor and
symbol. And for those left-brained and weak to emotion, it needs to be
familiarize to feelings through the role play method faciliates
underdistancing tendancy.
In terms of dealing with dramatic experience, the role play method has
distinct characteristic and usage is very important language of dramatherapy.
