The purpose of this study underlines that liberation of women has been possible by the socialist revolution of Vietnam. The study examines the status of Vietnamese women in traditional period, before the revolution, during the revolution, and after the revolution. It is true that Vietnamese women were guaranteed the gender equality of their status and roles in the society until 15th century. But this tradition of gender relations had been changed sharply by the introduction of Chinese culture, especially Confucian ethics and morality. Until early of 20th century, before starting the revolution, the position of women was estimated as "slave of slave" in the society. In fact, the leaders of revolution had been interested in the shifting traditional gender-relation, and these efforts made some improvement of gender inequality in the practical and institutional aspects of Vietnamese society. Another front, the revolution has stimulated women into the process of revolution itself, and women has been joined actively the various kinds of tasks including the revolutionary fighting itself. In spite of devotion and sacrifice of Vietnamese women in the revolution, the practices of gender inequality have not been improvement adequately. Some affirmative actions after the revolution seems to be the change of women's status in the public sphere, but the introducing of market based economy brings women on low wages and cheap labour market. Overall, it is estimated that the partenalised perspective, which is based on Marxism feminism, on improvement of gender inequity was not induced the changing of gender relation in the reality.
