본 연구는 Perticone(1998)이 제시하고 있는 BGT 각 도형의 상징적 의미와 해석적 가정에 기초하여 정서장애아의 BGT 반응결과를 질적으로 분석해보기 위해 수행되었다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 정서장애아의 BGT 모사반응 결과에서 두드러진 특이한 유형은 형태의 왜곡과 관련된 채점범주에 속하는 특이한 일탈을 가리키는 ‘평평함과 각의 둔화’, 불안 혹은 충동성을 암시하는 ‘반복시행’, 공격성 혹은 충동성을 시사하는 ‘선의 가중묘사’, 정신적 혼란과 사전계획곤란을 시사하는 ‘도형배열의 혼란’이었다. 둘째, 정서장애아와 정상아간에 BGT 도형모사에 있어서 가장 큰 차이를 보이는 도형은 아버지 혹은 지배적인 남성과의 관계의 특성을 암시하는 도형 7이었으며, 그 다음으로는 일시적 기분과 정서 등 정의적 상태를 반영하는 것으로 가정되는 도형 6, 경험된 어머니 혹은 이성과의 관계가 어떠한지를 나타내는 도형 A, 자아욕구를 상징하는 것으로 가정되며 고집․동기 혹은 자기표현 경향성의 지표로 여겨지는 도형 3, 어머니 혹은 이성과의 관계에 대한 연상을 이끌어내는 도형 4, 그리고 생활공간에서의 자아 혹은 현상적 자아에 대한 지각의 투사를 촉진하는 도형 8이었다. 셋째, BGT 도형의 상징적 의미와 해석적 가정에 비추어 볼 때 정서장애아의 주된 인성적 행동특징은 대인관계 곤란, 적대감, 충동성, 행동화, 압박감, 두려움, 열등감, 심리적 위축 등이었으며, 이는 교사의 관찰에 의한 판단과 상당히 일치하였다.

영어 초록

The purpose of this study was to examine how children with emotional disturbance responded to the Bender-Gestalt Test, or BGT, by taking Perticone(1998)'s symbolic meanings and interpretative hypotheses of individual BGT designs into account. The research questions were posed as follows:
1. What types of unusual design features do emotionally disturbed children exhibit in their BGT design copy?
2. Which design is copied by emotionally disturbed children and non- disturbed children in a significantly different manner?
3. What is the major personality traits of emotionally disturbed children's behavior in light of the symbolic meanings and interpretative hypotheses of the BGT designs? and does teacher observation produce the same results about their major personality traits?
The subjects in this study were 15 children with emotional disturbance and 15 children without emotional disturbance, selected from among the first and second graders in elementary school in the city of Pohang, North Gyeongsang province. The former group turned out to be disturbed emotionally by teacher observation checklist. They were tested according to the BGT standard procedure, and their copies were analyzed on the basis of Perticone's unusual design features and each design's symbolic meaning and interpretative hypotheses. The scoring reliability ranged from 83% to 93%, which proved to be very good after the ratio of conformity between this researcher and a specialist was investigated.
The findings of this study were as below:
First, the significantly unusual design features of the emotionally disturbed children's BGT copies included plainness/dull angles, repeat, duplicated line description, and confused design arrangement. The first feature, plainness and dull angles, referred to unique deviation related to distorted form, and the second feature, repeat, suggested the existence of anxiety or impulsiveness. The third one, duplicated line description, indicated the existence of aggressiveness or impulsiveness, and the fourth, confused design arrangement, indicated mental confusion and pre-planning difficulties.
