Are reason and emotion equally necessary in justifying moral decisions?
‘Don’t do unto other what you don’t want to do unto you’, I know it sounds familiar, who wouldn’t know the ever famous golden rule set before our eyes? As I was pondering on this thought, it came to me that this line signifies our actions towards someone or something. But before we could make any actions, these actions were thoroughly processed in us through decision-making. We decide first, and that decision brings about actions. My chosen topic for my essay is all about decisions, not just an ordinary day to day decisions but about moral decisions. Not only that, I am going to tackle about moral decisions as powered by our reason and emotion. With that, my topic question goes like this, “Are reason and emotion equally necessary in justifying moral decisions?” Based on my understanding on this question, reasoning and the influence of our emotions are questioned to be both equally required in justifying (proving what one said is right) moral decisions. This question is interesting to me because I want to know how these two – reason and emotion- jive together to processed moral decisions. At some point in our life, we all make moral decisions; we all suffer from the struggle of holding back or the pursuing power in making decisions.
