Can you imagine how far from Seoul to New York? It takes about fourteen hours by flight. To be exact, the distance between New York and Seoul is 6882 miles (11051km). However, if you visited both New York City and Seoul, you will feel that both are very similar to one another. Even though Seoul and New York are located in different continents, there are quite similarities between two cities such as geographical features, transportation, and entertainments.
First of all, both cities have similar geographical features. At first, they have rivers that are Hudson River and Han River. Historically many cities had benefits from the rivers and so did Seoul and New York. For example, Hudson River took a primary role as inland water transportation, which was a way for conveyance between Hudson River and Erie Canal. Han River likewise was used for mass transit, which is why the King of Korea, Lee Sung Kye chose Seoul as a capital of Korea in 1394. Not only for transportation but also for farming, it was essential for cities to be located near the river. Of course both cities exists not for agriculture now. For industry, it also needs to be situated near the rivers for cities. Besides, it is not really far from the sea for both cities. New York could be a connection for trading goods with Europe located near the Atlantic Ocean. Seoul also could import goods from China and vice versa through the West Sea.
