T-shirts and jeans, symbols of Western-style clothing, arrived in Asia one hundred years ago. They may be the best clothing products of the twenty-first century. T-shirts and jeans emphasize the functional side of clothing. They can’t be compared, however, to traditional clothing that express national spirit and desire for beauty. The Hanbok and Kimono are traditional clothings of Korea and Japan; both the Hanbok and Kimono are extremely beautiful and unique. However, there are some differences between the Hanbok and Kimono even if they were created near the same time in history.
The beauty of traditional Korean dress lies in the harmonious blend of strait and curved lines and in the color and design. The Hanbok gets its distinct style from a combination of straight lines and graceful curves. The elegant woman's outfit consists of a short jacket and long skirt. The length of the jacket and the length of the skirt are proportioned at a ratio of one to four. In order to preserve the Hanbok’s natural line, it is designed without pockets.
