As a citizen living in a liberal democracy state, freedom can be taken for granted and can think that most countries guarantee it. But are people really enjoying freedom all over the world? Surprisingly, 30 to 40 percent of the world’s nations are still ‘Failed states’ and do not guarantee proper rights to people. Countries of which Fragile States Index is high, they are usually in the Alert level, or Warning level, and most of those countries are authoritarian states or hybrid regimes. An authoritarian state is an undemocratic state that responds both internally and externally to the request of a small elite. Such a government may be run by a dictator or his confidant, a fascist party or a Communist Party, a military government, or a wealthy business group. An authoritarian state uses police and military power to suppress demands for personal freedom and democratic elections. Countries like Thailand, Turkey, and Vietnam are classified as authoritarian states, it is hard to expect elections to be fair and transparent, although they have systems.참고 자료
