Ⅰ. 연구 배경
‘Emerging chemicals of concern’으로 주목받고 있는 과불화화합물 (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances)은 화장품, 식품 포장재 같은 산업과 소비자 제품에 광범위하게 사용되고 있다. PFAS는 소수성이고 화학적으로 안정하다. 이러한 PFAS의 특성은 제품의 지속력과 발림성을 좋게 하기 때문에 화장품에 유화제, 정전기 방지제, 안정제, 계면 활성제 등으로 자주 쓰인다. 2021년 환경운동연합과 노동환경건강연구소가 국내 화장품 내 PFAS 분석 및 실태조사를 실시한 결과, 조사한 20개 제품 중 총 10개의 화장품에서 다양한 PFAS 종들이 검출되었는데, 립 메이크업 제품에는 PFHxA가, 자외선 차단제에는 PFHxA, PFHpA, PFPeA, PFOA 등 4종의 PFAS가, 컨실러와 같은 베이스 제품에서는 PFHxA, PFOA, PFDA, PFHpA, PFTeDA 등 총 5종의 PFAS가 검출되었다 (유민정, 2021).
