There are many critics out there leveling acrimonious criticism against constructivism concerning pragmatic solutions to many problems facing Northeast Asia head-on. It appears to them that constructivism stands aloof from the chilling reality of anarchy. Thucydides, the father of realism in the field of the international relation, pinpointed as the primary reason for the Peloponnesian war a situation where Sparta dreaded a rising Athens to the point it couldn’t help but going to war. What would have happened had they been fully aware of the implication of constructivism? Wouldn’t they have maneuvered to hammer out peace out of an ideational force of regionalism or a regional organization tailored to facilitate cooperation rather than waging a war? Admittedly, there are some commonalities for decision-makers at the helm in the 5th century B.C. and those in the 21st century A.D. to share in the realm of the international relation.
