본문내용
Diaspora is a term that has a very broad definition. Whether it’d be because of victimization, labor, trade, imperialism, or cultural reasons; diaspora is the population movement of a group of people from their original homeland. Throughout history, one can see many examples of diaspora communities such as the Koryo Sarams in the former Soviet states. They are Koreans who have migrated to the former Soviet states during the cold war era and have made themselves as one of the largest minority groups there. Diaspora communities all tend to have very similar qualities. They usually tend to maintain strong political ties to their homeland, yearn for return, and lack a full integration to the host country they reside in. I have personally experienced being part of a diaspora community while growing up in the United States. By ethnicity, I am full Korean but by the age of 4, my family immigrated to America for the so called ‘American Dream’.
