목차
없음본문내용
Globally, animals are dying, people are getting diseases and the nature is being polluted because of factory farming. It means a method of farming that a lot of animals are raised in confined spaces, where a farm operates as a business. According to the USDA report, animals from factory farming take up 76 percent of whole farms. Every year, billions of animals are raised in a factory like environment. Now, factory farming should be banned. Although it seems like a cheap and efficient way to produce meat, the cheap price only comes from very low quality and hidden costs. Also, there are three reasons why it should be banned. First, factory farming threatens animal health and welfare. It is designed to maximize profits and minimize expense. In this system, the animals are treated as only products.<중 략>
These are responsible for global warming. Also, factory farming needs massive use of water. About 8% of global human water use goes towards animal production, including water used to glow feeding crops. (Hoekstra, A. Y. & Chapagain, A. K., 2007). What’s worse is that these environmental impacts even threats to biodiversity globally. According to the FAO, “Livestock play an important role in the current biodiversity crisis, as they contribute directly or indirectly to all these drivers of biodiversity loss, at the local and global level through habitat change, climate change, overexploitation and pollution” (Compassion in world farming, 2009, p. 47). Actually, this crisis already started. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), which monitors endangered species, reported that current extinction rates are estimated to be at least 1000 times higher than natural background extinction rates. Today, factory farming affects whole ecosystem and we should prevent it. (244)
