A Tragic Hero, Macbeth
A tragic hero is a character who makes a mistake that eventually leads to his defeat eventually. This means the hero is destroyed by his fatal flaw. Is Macbeth a tragic hero? Everyone may think he was a villain and not a hero just because he killed many innocent people, but he was a tragic hero who had some factors that contributed to his decline. In the beginning of the story Macbeth was a good person and a hero as he defeated enemies of the country as a general of the king`s army. However, he fell from his great position because of his fatal flaw. The three main factors that led Macbeth to his degeneration were the prophecies of the three witches, the desire of Lady Macbeth, and his own ambition.
The prophecies of three witches contributed to the decline of Macbeth. If witches would not have told him "All hail, Macbeth! hail to thee, thane of Cawdor! All hail, Macbeth! that shalt be king hereafter," he would not have killed King Duncan and be able to live quietly, fighting for Scotland as an ordinary general in the king`s army (1.3.49-50).
