Abstract:This paper examines methods of measurement and evaluation for harmonics in current in power systems. Power quality problems cannot be ignored whenever devices are connected to a power system. The system considered in this paper uses a 6-pulse control, 20-kHz high-frequency device. Our measurement data were subjected to FFT analysis. A typical 6-pulse system produces 5th, 7th, 11th, 13th, 17th, and 19th order harmonics.
This paper describes a method of eliminating harmonics from this system using a passive filter. The passive filter, distribution system, and high-frequency device were designed using PSCAD/EMTDC.
