본 연구는 유아기 지속가능발전교육 사례인 ‘종이’ 프로젝트에서 지역사회와의 연계가 연계 주체들에
게 미친 영향을 파악하는데 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 I유치원 5세반에서 2014년 3월 중순부터 약 5주
간 ‘종이 프로젝트’가 시행되었다. 연구 참여자는 연구자, I유치원 원장과 5세반 담임 및 유아들, 지역
사회 연계대상자인 시청 직원 및 YWCA 관계자이다. 자료 수집은 프로젝트 중 교사의 수업일지 및 연
구일기, 유아 포트폴리오, 관계자들과의 면담 기록, E-mail, 관련 공문서 등을 통해 이루어졌고, 이
자료들을 종합하여 질적 분석하였다. 연구결과, 연계 영향으로 I유치원 교사와 유아들의 경우 종이팩
분리배출에 대한 명확한 인식 및 생활 속 적극적 실천, 지역사회 기관 및 단체에 대한 관심 증가, 시
민의식 증진, 시청 직원의 경우 유아기가 지속가능성 지향 환경교육의 최적기임을 새롭게 인식, 유아
교육현장에 전문가로 참여하기 위한 계획 수립 및 시행, 유아교육기관의 자원재활용 교육을 위한 지
원 확장으로 나타났다. 또한 YWCA 담당자의 경우 지역사회의 지속가능발전을 위한 유아역할의 중요
성 인식, 유아교육기관과의 연계 활동 확대로 나타났다. 이런 결과에 기초하여 유아기 지속가능발전
교육 시 지역사회와의 연계와 관련하여 크게 세 가지 점을 논의하였다.

영어 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects on related subjects, who built relationship with local
community and its members during the ‘Paper project’. The ‘paper project’ was performed for 5 weeks
from the middle of March with the 5 years old class in kindergartens. The participants of this study were
the researcher, the director of kindergarten, the teacher and young children in 5 year old class, the officer
of city hall and the YWCA secretary of Chongju city. The data was collected from large range of
materials such as the teachers’ daily log, study diary, the meeting recordings of the researcher & the
relatives of the project and the children’s portfolio such as children’s drawing, writing etc. Qualitative
analysis on all data has proceeded. The result of this study can be summarized into 3 key findings. First,
the effects to the teacher & children were clear recognition about paper carton separating & the practice
in their daily life, and the effect to community institutions & organizations were increased interest and
civic consciousness of environmental issues Second, City hall officer learned the fact that early childhood is
the most appropriate period for environmental education directing sustainability, which resulted in public
planning & implementing for participation to early childhood education field, and the extension of support
for recycling education in the kindergartens & child care center. Third, the effects to the YWCA secretary
were the recognition of importance of young children as a member for the sustainable community, which
allows him to extend activities with early childhood educational institute. Based on the study results, three
points were discussed for the circumstance of applying ESD in early childhood, focusing on effective
cooperation with local community.
