The Credit Bank System is an institutional device designed to give credit to people who have completed an accredited course of studies at another institution or acquired a certain level of
qualification through alternative means. When the total credits earned meet the established criteria, recognition is given of the level of the educational attainment in the form of a diploma or degree conferred. The merit of the credit banking system is that it enables people who have undergone alternative training to claim the equivalent qualification of those who go through formal schooling. The system encourages adults with no strong educational background to develop life skills and experience for use as prerequisite qualifications for entry to formal education institutions.
Also, the Credit Bank System is the institutional recognition of informal education, which has been long overshadowed by formal school education. It offers the chance to pursue academic interests to segments of the population who have not traditionally been afforded opportunity for continuing education, like economically deprived mentally handicapped children, for example.
