한국어 초록

하노이의 탑(tower of Hanoi) 퍼즐은 많은 사람들이 즐기는 유명한 놀이다. 교육용 장난감으로 만들어 어린이들의 지능개발을 위한 놀이로 사용하고, 학교에서는 알고리즘을 공부하기 위한 모델로 이용하기도 한다. 온라인에서도 인기가 높아 많은 사이트(http://www.lawrencehallofscience.org/Java/Tower/tower.html; http://thinks.com/java/hanoi/hanoi.htm 등)가 개설되어 있다. 또한 초․중․고등 영재학생들과 대학생들에게 곧잘 주어지는 흥미로운 문제이며, 상위인지 능력 변화 및 문제해결 학습을 알아보는 연구와 전산과학 분야에서 프로그래밍의 연습 문제 등에 많이 사용되고 있다(김수환, 1999; 김태형, 2002; 반창수, 2008; 방승진, 최중오, 임진아, 고정호, 이정승, 남주강, 전규민, 2007; 송상헌, 2004; 송영미, 1987; 최명옥, 우남희, 1996).
이 퍼즐이 널리 퍼지게 된 것은 프랑스 수학자 Lucas(1883)가 펴낸 수학놀이(Rẻcrẻations mathẻmatiques)라는 책에 Claus라는 이름으로 처음 이 놀이가 실리고 난 이후이다(Hinz, 1989). 일년 뒤 역시 프랑스 수학자 Parville가 자신의 책 자연(La Nature)에서 하노이의 탑 문제에 결부된 전설을 소개했다(박선준, 2010a; 반창수, 2008; 송상헌, 2004; 정현철, 서혜애, 황동주, 박영신, 유효숙, 장윤혜, 2007).
그에 따르면, 베르나르의 거대한 사원에 세상의 중심을 표시하는 돔(dome)이 있었는데, 그 안에는 세상이 창조될 때 신이 쌓아놓은 Brahma의 탑이 있었다. 이 탑은 거대한 구리판 위에 세 개의 다이아몬드 막대가 서 있고, 그 중 한 막대에 순금으로 된 64개의 원판이 크기 순으로 제일 큰 것이 바닥에 오도록 쌓여 있었는데, 승려들이 한 번에 원판을 한 개씩만 다른 막대로 옮기되, 절대로 큰 원판이 작은 원판 위에 와서는 안 되었다. 이렇게 하여 원판들이 다 옮겨지면 탑도, 사원도, 세상도 모두 먼지가 되어 소멸하게 된다는 것이다.

영어 초록

The purpose of this study is to verify that the new sports, Hanoi Tower Building and Cup Stack, help elementary school students improving their recognition and senses-perception and to investigate their experiences during the process. To achieve these goals, 12 periods of classes were given to 16 students on their grade from fourth to sixth in a D elementary school located in D metropolitan city. They participated in the new sports club of the free-of-charge extracurricular activities, and the male teacher taught them from June to November, 2010. The effects and experiences created through it were categorized into five concepts.
First, students were absorbed in ‘fun’, the emotional influence of sensory perceptive exercises, through which, their ability to cope with stress had been being improved remarkably without their knowledge of it. Also, they were joining the activities with curiosity about what’s new.
Second, they were positively fulfilling another emotional effect of ‘forming friendship’, and in the process they were learning how to control and express their emotions effectively.
Third, they were putting another emotional effect of ‘spending time together with family’ into practice, which provide the tip for how to combine family and social physical education and sound pastime for a family.
Fourth, a cognitive effect of ‘concentration’ had been developed, and it has proved the transition effect of exercise on studying intellectual subjects.
Finally, as for a kinetic effect, they experienced ‘developing physical strength in new and fresh ways’. They have learned how they can build up their physical strength for their healthy life in the situation where the space for movement is becoming smaller.
As stated above, exercises of sensory perception affected elementary school students by improving their capability of recognition and sensory perception. The following suggestion would be made.
To begin with, more diverse exercise programs of sensory perception need to be developed and applied to study for sound pastime of family. And the ways to combine them with social physical education should be conducted. Moreover, researches of expanded application range and period have to be carried out continuously.
