역량은 특정 활동을 수행하기 위해 요구되는 능력을 의미한다. 원격대학 우수 학습자의역량을 밝히는 것은 원격 학습 환경에서 학습자가 중도탈락하지 않고 성공적으로 학업을마치기 위해 갖춰야 하는 능력이나 자질이 무엇인가를 밝혀준다는 점에서 의미가 있다.이에 본 연구는 ‘역량’이라는 개념에 근거하여 원격대학 학습자들이 성공적으로 학업을수행하는 데 필요한 우수 학습자 역량을 도출하고 역량모형을 개발하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 역량모형 개발 절차는 1) 자료수집, 2) 역량추출 및 모형개발, 3) 타당화, 4) 최종 수정 및 모형 완성의 네 단계를 거쳤다. 질적 연구 방법에 의해 자료수집과 모형개발이 이루어졌고, 양적 연구 방법에 의해 역량모형의 타당성이 검증되었다. 자료 수집은 서로 다른 원격대학 우수 학습자 9명과 원격교육 전문가 7명을 대상으로 행동사건면담과 심층면담을 통해 이루어졌다. 도출된 역량 모형은 5개 원격대학 171명의 설문자료에 기초하여확인적 요인분석과 전문가들의 내용타당도 검증을 거쳐 완성되었다. 연구 결과, 원격대학학습자 역량모형은 ‘학업비전설정 역량’, ‘인지조절 역량’, ‘협력적 관계형성 역량’, ‘학생정체성 역량’, ‘학습관리 역량’ 등 다섯 가지 역량들과 열다섯 개의 구성요소들로 구성되었다. 본 연구는 원격대학 학습자 연구의 일환으로 원격학습자에 대한 이해를 심화하였다는 점에서 의미가 있으며, 향후 원격대학 학습자의 성공적 학업 수행을 위한 다양한 지원체제를 구축하는데 기여할 수 있을 것이다.

영어 초록

The primary purpose of this study was to develop the distance learner competency model toencourage the success of the learners’ studies. It analyzed the data about semi-structuredinterviews of 7 distance education experts and behavior event interviews of 9 excellent distancestudents from 3 universities. As a result, the distance learner competency model was composedof five competencies and a total of fifteen constructs. Each competency comprised of threeindividual constructs. First competency, ‘Vision of Studies’ was to create the academicorientation, to motivate oneself to reach one's goal, and to prepare a supportive environment.Second competency, ‘Regulation of Cognition’ was to study the distance learning contentseffectively and efficiently. Third competency, ‘Collaborative Relationship’ was to make an on-lineand off-line connection with other members of distance universities such as professors,instructors, tutors, and colleagues. Fourth competency, ‘Students' Identification’ was to recognizeoneself as a student of one’s distance university and to be responsible of the studies. The lastcompetency, ‘Learning Management’ was to manage the learning resource like time, media,information, and to conduct the studies according to the rule of oneself, class, and university.The distance learner competency model was verified by expert validity of 5 experts hadparticipated in semi-structured interviews. Construct validity was verified by a survey of 171distance students from 5 distance universities. This research expected to deepen the theoreticaldiscussion of distance learner, and to construct the adaptive distance learning environment tocomplement learner support system in distance universities.
