한국어 초록

국어교육학은 1980년대 이전까지만 해도 경험적인 차원에 머물렀을 뿐, 학문적 탐구가 별
로 이루어지지 않았다. 그러던 것이 1986년도에 서울대학교 사범대학에 교과교육을 위한 박
사 과정이 생기고, 1988년에 한국교원대학교에도 박사 과정이 생기면서 국어교육학 연구는
불이 붙기 시작하였다. 국어교육학 연구는 정체성 확립 연구에서부터 시작하여 많은 영역에
서 놀라운 성과를 이루어내고 있다.
이 논문의 목적은 국어교육학의 정체성 정립 과정을 살펴보는 데 있다. 정체성 연구는 국
어와 교육의 상관성 연구부터 시작하였는데, 이 상관성은 내용과 방법의 제공 수준을 넘어
서서 국어교육학 스스로의 안목에서 일원적으로 생성되는 것임을 밝히면서 정체성의 확립에
바짝 다가갔다. 그리고 국어교육학의 영역에 대한 면밀한 고찰도 많이 이루어졌고, 영역별
이론화 전략도 연구되어 전체적으로 국어교육학의 정체성이 상당히 밝혀졌다고 생각된다.
그러나 앞으로도 계속 정교한 탐구가 이루어져야 보다 온전한 모습을 이루어낼 수 있을 것
으로 보인다.

영어 초록

Studies on Korean language education were limited to experimental
researches of teaching without scientific systematization till 1980's. (This
means that Korean language education did not obtain the status or the
identity as a science before 1980's.) It has made rapid progress since a
doctor's course was established at Korean language education department of
Seoul National University in 1986 and Korea National University of Education
in 1988.
The early studies on scientific systematization in Korean language
education research put stress on the interrelation between Korean language and
education. Recently many scholars agree that the Korean language and
education need to be integrated to establish identity of Korean language
education, and further some researchers have presented several definite ideas
on it.
Some examples are as follows.
First, Korean language education is not an applied science.
Second, Korean language education is a study on human language use
education, and language use is complex thinking process to construct meaning
through language.
Third, Korean language education study covers all areas which are related
to improve the skills for Korean language function use.
Fourth, Korean language education formulates and develops theories to
understand and predict Korean language education phenomena. So, it studies the phenomena of Korean language use, Korean language knowledge and
Korean language arts from the viewpoint of contents, values, organization,
teaching and assessment, etc.
Fifth, language phenomenon is not only high-level thinking process for
comprehension and production, but also meaning construction process.
Last, mental process using knowledge or the strategy teaching, is more
important than knowledge itself in Korean language education.
In spite of this improvement, Korean language education research need to
be developed continuously to settle its identity.
