본 연구의 목적은 노령과 장애로 인해 이동권의 제약이 심한 시각장애노인 447명을 대상으로 사회통합실태를 파악하고 영향요인들을 규명함으로써 시각장애노인의 사회통합을 촉진하기 위한 정책적 함의를 제시하는 데 있다.연구결과, 시각장애노인의 사회통합에 영향을 미치는 요인들은 일상생활제약뿐만 아니라 정보적 지원과 교육훈련 참여여부 등이 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 실명시기에 따라 사회통합에 영향을 미치는 요인이 상이하게 나타났는데, 30세 이후 실명한 경우 일상생활능력 이외에 사회적 지지나 교육훈련프로그램의 참여여부가 중요한 영향요인으로 나타난 반면, 30세 이전 실명한 경우는 일상생활능력만이 유의한 영향요인으로 나타나 실명시기가 성인기 이후인 중도장애인을 위한 재활프로그램의 중요성이 크다는 점을 알 수 있었다. 한편 장애정도에 따라 두 집단으로 구분하여 분석한 결과, 중증장애집단의 경우 사회통합에 영향을 미치는 요인으로 일상생활정도뿐만 아니라 정서적 지원, 교육훈련 참여여부 등으로 나타난 반면, 경증장애집단의 경우는 일상생활제약, 정보적 지원정도가 유의한 영향요인으로 나타났다.
이러한 결과를 통해 시각장애노인의 사회통합정도를 촉진시키기 위해서는 장애정도별, 장애발생 시기별로 구분하여 특화된 서비스를 제공할 수 있는 정책적 노력이 필요함을 알 수 있다. 나아가 시각장애노인들을 대상으로 한 다양한 사회재활 및 교육재활프로그램 개발하고 시행할 필요가 있는 것으로 나타났다.
영어 초록
The purpose of this study is to examine the degree of social integration of elderly visually impaired people and find factors affecting social integration. The data were obtained through telephone interview with visually impaired people 55 years of age or older. The final sample was consisted of 447 respondents. The data were analyzed using statistical techniques such as frequency and multiple regression.In this study, the factors affecting social integration was divided into four dimensions : the attribution to disability, physical functioning, psychology and social characteristics.
The major findings of this study were as follows:
First, the factors affecting social integration of elderly visually impaired people were age, education, ADL, informational support, and participation of education rehabilitation program.
Second, the person losing eyesight since young adulthood tend to have more limitation of daily activities than elderly people losing eyesight before young adulthood. The factors affecting social integration of the former are sex, education, ADL, informational support, participation of education rehabilitation program but those affecting social integration of latter are education and ADL.
Finally, the factors affecting social integration of severe group are sex education, ADL, emotional supported participation of education rehabilitation program. But the factors affecting social integration of mild group are education, ADL, participation of education rehabilitation program.
The current findings suggest that intervention and policy aimed at improving social support system and formal services such as education, social rehabilitation services should be considered by rehabilitation professionals and policy makers.
