Culture shock

We can not deny that globalization is certainly taking place. It means we have much more opportunities to meet people from other countries and make friends with them. However, each person from different cultural backgrounds has a unique way of doing things, analyzing situations, and reacting to circumstances.
Culture is the totality of learned and shared products, behaviors and values of a group of people. It is not born but learned by ours. Once we have borrowed something we tend to make it our own, we adapt and modify it to fit our own culture. It is changing constantly by way of borrowing and internal innovation. We can acquire culture naturally with any conscious efforts to learn. Unless the culture is shared throughout the group of people and recognized as the universal validity, it is merely an individual trait or habit. These kinds of different aspects of our perspectives make up heterogeneous cultures. Thus, it is necessary for us to familiarize ourselves with other peoples different cultural backgrounds such as their behaviors, attitudes, or ways of thinking in general to get along with them.
Today cultures have clearly moved closer together. It does not mean that local cultures will be completely eroded. Fundamental to the occurrence of such changes in an entire society is a culture shock. Culture shock is a profound learning experience that leads to a high degree of self-awareness and personal growth. It is cross-cultural learning experience and an experience in self-understanding and change.
