1. Introduction
2. An Interrupted Gene Consists of Exons and Introns
3. Organization of Interrupted Genes May Be Conserved
4. Exon Sequences Are Conserved but Introns Vary
5. Genes Show a Wide Distribution of Sizes Primarily Due to Intron Size and Number Variation
6. Some DNA Sequences Code for More Than One Polypeptide
7. Some Exons Can Be Equated with Protein Functions
8. The members of a gene family have a common organization
3.1 Introduction
3.2 An Interrupted Gene Consists of Exons and Introns
Introns are removed by the process of RNA splicing
Only mutations in exons can affect polypeptide sequence
3.3 Organization of Interrupted Genes May Be Conserved
Introns can be detected by the presence of additional regions
