Abstract
The first objectives of this experiment is to reduce acetylferrocene. Second is to use various spectrometrical or electrochemical methods to analyze ferrocene and its derivatives. On day 1, we reduced acetylferrocene to yield a secondary alcohol, and performed various spectrometry on it. On day 2, we performed X-ray crystallography, cyclic voltammetry to analyze ferrocene derivatives. Afterwards, we discussed about the properties of ferrocene derivatives, reaching for its nature.
Introduction
Our first experiment done was reduction of acetylferrocene using sodium borohydride. NaBH4 is a common hydride source, and is well known for its reducibility. Reduction by it can be applied to various organic compounds by controlling reaction conditions. Treatment of NaBH4 in this experiment is expected to yield a secondary alcohol.
Our second experiment includes X-ray crystallography and cyclic voltammetry. How does cyclic voltammetry work?
