Double–Pipe Heat Exchanger Experiment
2. Objective
The most commonly used heat transfer equipment is the heat exchanger. In this experiment, the characteristics of double-pipe heat exchanger are examined. In the double-pipe heat exchanger, one fluid flows on the inside of the smaller tube while the other fluid flows in the annular space between the two tubes. The overall heat transfer coefficient (U) is measured based on the simple heat transfer equation.
3. Theory
A. Heat flow
Heat was proven to be a form of energy by the physicist Joule, and heat was confirmed that it is the energy of the particles that make up the object. Heat transfer is also achieved as the particles vibrate and move and transfer kinetic energy to the surrounding particles. Types of heat transfer include conduction, convection, and radiation.
(A-1) Conduction
Conduction refers to a phenomenon in which thermal energy is continuously transferred from high temperature to low temperature without the movement of a substance.
