1.2 Loading Cases
A: Helideck middle
B: Helideck middle side
C: Helideck side
We apply loading case A: Helideck middle.
1.3 Loading Conditions
For loading Case A, there are 2 loading conditions as follows.
1.3.1 Condition 1
Assume boundary condition as pin-pin, the helicopter lands at the middle of the beam.
1.3.2 Condition 2
Assume the both edges are fixed, concentrated loading acts at the middle.
2. Determination of diameter of the beam
Under given conditions let’s determine a diameter of the beam, with safe factor 2. Safe factor 2 consists of 1.5(impact factor) and 0.5(extra safe factor).
Gross weight of the helicopter is 5.08 ton and with impact factor we apply loading as 7.62 ton (5.08 *1.5=7.62).
2.1 Condition 1
For the most conservative design we firstly assume the loading condition 1.
Weight 3.81 ton is acting on 2 points.
Firstly moment is as follows M_max=P×d=3.81×365=1390.65ton∙cm .
