Our Federal Government: How It Works
What is the government of the United States exactly? How and when did it come to be? Who were the people who agreed to accept our government and why did they want to accept it?
The answers to these questions lie in the events that took place between 1775 and 1787. In 1775, the war against British domination began. At that point, there was no central American government established by law.
There was only the Continental Congress made up of men who believed in independence and who were willing to fight for their cause.
