본문내용
1. Objecive
On completion of this experiment, students will be able to:
• Determine the pressure drop and bed expansion through a fixed and fluidized bed.
• Measure pressure as a function of flow rate through a bed of particles that are not constrained.
• Determine minimum fluidization from experimental data
2. Theory
Fluidization is an operation by which a bed of solid particles acquires fluid-like properties by passing a gas or liquid through it. Fluidization can be best pictured by considering a vessel partly filled with a column of solids (Figure 1). Through a perforated bottom, a gas is injected into the vessel. The sequence of events, as the gas flow rate increases, is typically as follows:
• For low flow rates, the gas simply flows through the particle interstitial space. The particles remain stationary, the bed behaves like a porous medium and is called a fixed bed (Figure 1a).
• As the gas velocity increases
