Introduction• Background
From personal experiences and discussion between team members and their peers. It was observed that students studying at HTW, who had already completed their first year, acknowledged a distinct lack of strong social integration events. Students who attend orientation courses are more likely to receive higher GPA’s in their first year (Burgette, 2008). This is a benefit for the university and students alike.
A balance was struck between cost, resources and engagement which resulted in a overnight trip but not longer than 2 days. This provided more engagement than a day event but reduced the cost from a multi-night event.
• Vision
To provide a welcoming and empowering environment to allow students a smooth social transition of students from highschool to university. In this environment students are encouraged to socialise and interact with their peers. Ultimately allowing these students to concentrate on their studies while not being weighed down by transitional social needs.
