Intro
The “famous” productivity comparison graph (see above) between construction and all other industries shows the productivity gap is about three folds in 2010. Construction is the industry sector yet to be transformed by technology. In the last few years, technology got enormously cheaper, faster, and smaller than in few decades which enables things in our imaginary world into reality; Robot building, Predictive analytics, Automated safety inspection, Augmented reality in construction, Tracking resources real-time ,etc. This allows to track productivity and progress in real-time as if they are in manufacturing setting. Thus, the recent boom of technology will help construction industry close the productivity gap.
Industry Outlook
- Construction market will grow strong, 6% increase in 2017 per Dodge Analytic
- Trend to more pre-fabrication and assembly in the field.
- More suppliers and Vendors utilizes BIM to add value through the supply chain
