In the novel women were portrayed as “stupid” people who had limited knowledge.
For example when Julia fell asleep during the book was being read Winston refereed to Julia as “a rebel from the waist downwards” (Orwell 129).
However, if we look deeper into the role of women, we can see that they unintentionally trigger Winston to go against the law. On contrary with the idea that women are mentally weaker than men, the three women Julia, Winston’s mom, and Katherine were unintentionally portrayed as smart people
