우리가 원하던, 원하지 않던 남성은 우리 사회에서 중요한 위치를 차지 하고 있다. 남성우월주의는 우리의 일상과 함께 공존하고 있고, 그것은 영화에서도 나타난다. 라스트 사무라이와 라타투이는 얼핏 보면 공통점이 전혀 없는 영화이지만 좀 더 자세히 보면 이 영화들이 만들어진 배경에서의 남성상을 잘 나타내고 있다. 라스트 사무라이의 동양적인 남성상의 특징과 라타투이에서의 서구적인 남성의 특징, 그리고 이 두영화에 나타난 여성캐릭터 들의 특징을 비교, 분석해 보겠다.
Whether wanted or not, the truth is that men occupy the important status in our society. Masculine supremacy co-exists with our everyday lives and it is reflected on the movies as well. The Last Samurai and Ratatouille seem to have no commonality at first glance but reveals to contain male conception of background where the movie takes place through deeper analysis. If The Last Samurai reveals the Eastern conception of male, Ratatouille contains the Western. Such characteristics would be compared and analyzed in this essay.
First off, the traditional male concept of the east is well-illustrated in The Last Samurai. Edward Zwick’s The Last Samurai along with Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill has portrayed the degree of Japanese culture. Because both movies premiered in 2003 we cannot resist throwing the question
