본문내용
I. Causes of the 1997’s Asian Economic CrisisIn 1997, an economic crisis struck most of Asia. This study focuses on the causes of this financial crisis, especially South Korea and Malaysia. South Korea even had to solicitaid from the International Monetary Fund in order to overcome it. For this reason, this state of affairs became known as the 1997 IMF Financial Crisis. The IMF analyzed the following three reasons as to why this economic catastrophe came about: (1) failure of foreign exchange policies; (2) financial institution’s mismanagement of foreign money; and (3) banking system.
(1) Failure of foreign exchange policies
In the early 1990s, South Korea raised many global companies with strong export policies. The government’s exchange policy supporting export caused a weakening of the national current balance. Even though there was a deficit of current balance, the government expected a continuing inflow of foreign money and didn’t prepare an outflow of foreign capital.
