본문내용
Q1. Why does the narrator compare love with her to hunting?
Before the word “she” appears in line 6, the objective which the narrator describes is unclear. It means that the female is depicted as an animal such as a “hind” (1). Also, the narrator depicts himself as the hunter who tries to hunt her. Considering the hunting failed, he may want to represent one sided love, which hunting can be a great metaphor for because hunting is always a relationship which is like a cat-and-mouse game.
Q2. Who and what kind of woman is the female in the poem?
The female wears a necklace with diamonds around her neck (11), engraved with “` Noli me tangere ; for Cæsar`s I am” (12). It is translated into “touch me not, for I belong to Caesar”(Vulgate). It means she is in the upper class and her husband also may be a high-ranking official because he is metaphorically compared to Caesar.
