The study of Huckleberry Finn’s superficial and internal character
Throughout the story, the main character, Huckleberry Finn take a very active part in many situation. Through his actions, some kinds of value get realized naturally. Therefore Huckleberry Finn represents several values of America at those days.
Son of a drunkard, Huckleberry Finn is an outlaw and barefoot naughty boy. Every people in town don’t like him, of course. Although he is a white child of low social class, he solves many problems with his wits and make adults dull. Huck’s rough appearance might represent natural aspect of America. He always has free, independent and lively spirit. He also has conscience and sympathy. Finn helps Jim to flee from town to land of liberty, simply because of friendship. It was very serious crime which could cause fatal punishment for Abolitionist. In addition, extemporaneous wit and quick reaction to hard situations can be found at him. Superficially, Finn has no child-like purity and is morally abnormal. However this kind of aspect he has is the author, Mark Twain’s intended work for criticizing the corrupt American society. If he were a normally kind child, the story might be just a children’s tale.
