본문내용
This picture is vacuuming Pop Art by Martha Rosler. She is a feminist pop artist who is still working. In this picture, she actually wanted to tell that the role of female pop artists is just like vacuuming. In 1960s, the American society still had racial and sexual discriminations even though social changes were taking place in the America. Thus, female pop artists were supposed to take a back seat behind men just colleting and combining their works. However, I approach the work a little bit differently. I actually focus on the woman’s identity as a mom with this picture.
When I first saw this picture, I recognized the vacuuming lady as a mom, not as a woman. The woman in this picture, she is a typical American mother. We can notice that “mom” is a separate identity apart from “woman”. Clean clothes, neat hair style, bright smiles, and vacuuming the room, these are the ordinary features of a mom in 1960s. Even though it has been changed a lot, we still have a sort of fixed images about mother.
