Even after its structural change in mid 1990’s it still had problems. In terms of management, Unilever had to manage more than 1600 products which was definitely a burden for coordinating its activities. It also had to duplicate its decision-making activities at regional level, which was inefficient. For example Unilever Europe had product division of detergent while Unilever in Asia had the same. And in terms of brand coordination, as technology and interaction between customers improved, It needed a more simplified way of delivering its unified brand of Unilever across the globe.
