Secret in "Leda and the Swan"
Do you know one of the Greek mythologies, Leda and Zeus? Since the story is interesting, many artists have worked with it as a topic. Yeats, the famous Irish poet, is not the exception. He wrote a poem, "Leda and the Swan", based on the Leda and Zeus story. Then how does he describe the story in his poem? Why did he write the poem with a motif in the Greek myth? Moreover, what meanings does "Leda and the Swan" have?
The story of Leda and Zeus is one of the most famous stories in Greek Mythology. When Leda was taking a shower at a lake, Zeus saw her and fell in love. He turned himself into a swan and raped Leda. And later, she laid two eggs, one was Clytemnestra and the other was Helen. Clytemnestra became a wife of Agamemnon, the Greek leader of the Trojan War. Helen became a wife of Menelaos, Agamemnon`s younger brother.
