By the mid-2007 latest calculation suggested an undervaluation of 58%
It would require a rise of 138% in the renminbi against the US dollar to place the cost of a Big Mac at the same price in dollars in the two countries
BEER estimates can differ because of differences in independent variables, estimation periods, country samples and estimating thecniques. All BEER studies include productivity variable and all except one (MacDonald and Dias 2007) include net foreing assets. The crucial distinction is whether the model is estimated using an international panel approach or instead uses data solely for China.
