Gene engineering is the human modification of living cells. It allows scientists to alter, remove, duplicate genes or place them in an entirely new organism. This method was used to create Dolly, the first sheep to be cloned from an adult somatic cell, in 1996. This discovery led to the possibility of human cloning. However, according to many scientists, ‘‘tempting with human, the nature itself, will bring destruction.” ‘Rappaccini’s Daughter’ by Nathaniel Hawthorne is the story of men versus science. It shows many similarities to ‘The Birthmark’, another story written by Nathaniel Hawthorne; the setting and occupation of main characters, seeing a flaw in their loved ones, defying the nature for perfection. Both stories represent the danger of challenging the nature (God).
